Scoring Methodology

How OppAction scores listing readiness

OppAction uses consistent, rule-based checks to help Shopify operators compare listing condition, find gaps, and decide what to review next. The scores describe selected content characteristics; they do not predict business performance.

RulesUsed in all three scores

Listing fields are checked consistently against documented content-readiness criteria.

AI assessmentsNot included in numeric scores

AI may help generate or explain content, but model judgment and confidence do not set the scores.

External signalsNot included

Traffic, orders, rankings, analytics, reviews, inventory, and competitor data do not change the scores.

Merchant standardsUsed in specific checks

Selected tone and merchant-configured blocked terms can affect relevant components and priority.

Score Interpretation

All scores use a 0 to 100 scale

Higher scores mean more of OppAction's measured listing checks were satisfied. Labels describe content readiness under this methodology, not expected rankings or commercial results.

0-39

Needs Work

Several important listing checks are incomplete.

40-59

Improving

Some foundations are present, with meaningful gaps.

60-79

Strong

Most core checks are satisfied.

80-100

Excellent

The listing satisfies most or all measured checks.

Listing Quality Score

A weighted view of overall listing readiness

The Listing Quality Score combines four independently calculated components. The weighted result is rounded and kept within 0 to 100.

It uses captured Shopify listing fields. Missing fields receive no positive contribution, and OppAction does not invent values when information is absent or conflicting.

ComponentWeightWhat it covers
SEO Score40%Completeness and structure of search-facing listing fields.
Conversion Score30%Clarity and scannability of ecommerce listing copy.
Safety/IP Score20%Deterministic blocked-term and safety checks; not legal clearance or advice.
Tone Alignment Score10%Deterministic alignment with the selected or account-default tone.

Sample breakdown

Listing Quality Score81 | Excellent

This score does not evaluate price competitiveness, demand, fulfillment, inventory strategy, advertising, seasonality, actual search rank, or actual conversion performance.

SEO Score

Completeness and structure of search-facing fields

The SEO Score is an absolute, deterministic assessment of selected listing fields. Available contributions can exceed 100, but the displayed score is capped at 100.

It is not a search-engine ranking score and does not use keyword volume, backlinks, crawl status, indexation, competitive position, Search Console, or external rankings.

Conversion Score

Content readiness for clear, scannable product copy

The Conversion Score applies deterministic checks to title clarity, description depth and structure, benefit language, purchase direction, and merchandising context.

It is not a predicted conversion rate. Orders, sessions, revenue, price, discounts, shipping, reviews, inventory, checkout performance, and historical conversion rate are not inputs.

Opportunity Priority

Queue order is separate from the three scores

Priority helps operators decide what to review first. It does not change the Listing Quality, SEO, or Conversion score.

Live priority factors

  • The gap between Listing Quality Score and 100
  • SEO and Conversion gaps that indicate stronger opportunities
  • Unresolved Safety/IP gaps, which receive greater emphasis
  • Weaker tone alignment and merchant blocked-term findings
  • The number and severity of issue types, including missing image alt text
  • Whether an opportunity is active, dismissed, resolved, or snoozed

Equal priorities are ordered by the most recently detected opportunity. Snoozed items wait until the snooze period ends, and dismissed items stay dismissed until product content changes.

Reviewed first | Product AListing Quality Score 62

Unresolved Safety/IP issue, weak SEO coverage, and missing image alt text.

Reviewed next | Product BListing Quality Score 58

No Safety/IP issue and complete image alt text.

Why A is first: unresolved safety concerns receive more priority than ordinary completeness gaps, even when another product has a lower overall score.

Methodology Boundaries

What the current methodology does not claim

Scores are absolute rule-based assessments, not percentiles or comparisons with other OppAction merchants. They are not normalized by product category, and Shopify is the only live marketplace connector today.

External performance adjustments to opportunity priority and non-Shopify marketplace scoring are not public-ready. OppAction does not currently claim that traffic, sales, inventory, analytics, reviews, Search Console, or GA4 affect merchant opportunity rankings.

Responsible Use

Scores support decisions; merchants keep judgment

OppAction scores support workflow and prioritization decisions. They do not guarantee search rankings, traffic, sales, conversions, or revenue.

Scores are informational, rule-based assessments of selected listing characteristics and are not legal, financial, advertising, or marketplace-compliance advice. A Safety/IP Score is not legal clearance or confirmation of non-infringement.
